Uruphong 1-1:30 pm April 13th

After my stay at Redshirt central I headed towards Uruphong. The Redshirts there were burning tires and had road blocks set up (first 4 pics). There wasn't a lot of commotion or much action at this time though. Probably the most interesting thing I saw while here was a small convoy of police on motorcycles pass through the intersection. I would have thought that the road blockades were there to STOP the police – but instead the police drove right through the intersection totally unmolested and to cheers from the Redshirts present (3rd pic down on the left). I also saw some redshirts cutting a wire coming from some kind of electrical box. I asked them why they did that and they pointed at a traffic camera up above mounted near a traffic light (3rd pic down on the right shows the cut wire). After Uruphong I headed towards Victory Monument and between the two I found some more burning tires and a slightly damaged 7-11.

Also (assuming this post works) I need to give a big thanks to Vin for introducing me to Windows Live Writer which is helping me display my pictures better.

  1. Interesting set of photos. Thanks for putting them up for everyone to see.

I read online that some of the police were on the side of the Red Shirts (which is why the army was called in). And that there were times when the police put on red shirts and joined in.

  2. I know that SOME of the police were with the Redshirts but I would have thought that by this point those police would have been posted to areas where the Redshirts weren't active. Also I can't figure out how the Redshirts would know which police were with them. I would have thought that if they saw police coming they would at least get ready for a fight and then only let them through after a bit of talking and once they knew which side the police were on. This particular group of police, however, was let straight through and as soon as the Redshirts saw them they started to cheer. I don't know if they already knew that this group was going to pass through or if at this point they thought that all the police were with them.
